OUR PRESIDENT WALTER STOCKER PASSES AWAY

It is with great sadness that we anounce the death of Walter Stocker President and founder member of Age Concern Pembrokeshire at his home on Saturday morning, 17th March. Our thoughts are with his wife Shirley and family.

He will be very much missed by all at Age Concern Pembrokeshire. He was passionate about his community, including serving as a community councillor and trade unionist for many years and was an active and commited volunteer and trustee to Age Concern Pembrokeshire.

His funeral was held on Friday, 23rd March 13:00hrs at the Johnston Baptist Church, Glebelands, Johnston, HAVERFORDWEST. SA62 3PW. Interment followed at Thornton Cemetery and then afterwards at the Vine Inn, Johnston.

There were family flowers only and all donations forwarded directly to either Paul Sartori Foundation at 31, Haven Road, HAVERFORDWEST. SA61 1DU or Age Concern Pembrokeshire at 37, Merlins Hill, HAVERFORDWEST, SA61 1PE.

NEW ERA FOR AGE CONCERN PEMBROKESHIRE

As you can see above, we have changed our look with a new logo.

You will no doubt have heard that the national charities Age Concern and Help the Aged merged in April, 2009, and, in April, 2010, launched a new national charity called Age UK.  Age Cymru, Age Northern Ireland and Age Scotland are licensed by Age UK to operate in their respective nations.

We are aware that this national merger has resulted in some confusion, not least arising from assumptions being made that all local Age Concern organisations would become part of the new merged organisations, including the adoption of new titles. Age Concern Pembrokeshire’s Board of Trustees has resolved that the organisation is to remain as an independent local charity.

We are therefore not part of Age Cymru or Age UK and, along with a number of other similar local Age Concern organisations across Wales, will remain Age Concern Pembrokeshire.  This decision was not taken lightly but we firmly believe it to be in the best interests of our organisation and the older people of Pembrokeshire to retain our Age Concern Pembrokeshire name and our current level of autonomy.  We will remain Independent, Local and Listening.

In remaining independent we are able to continue to use the Age Concern Pembrokeshire name but not the current Age Concern Pembrokeshire logo. Age Concerns across Wales and England that wish to remain independent and continue as Age Concern have come together and agreed that a consistent image is still required and a new logo and image has been agreed.
